Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about buying and selling wild produce in Finland – fish, game, berries, mushrooms and wild herbs straight from fishers, hunters and foragers.

What is Willit?

Willit is a new-generation marketplace for wild produce. We connect buyers directly with fishers, hunters, foragers, and small farms — fish, game, berries, mushrooms and wild herbs. Browse products, place an order, and choose how you want to receive it – pickup from the seller, a Willit pickup point, or home delivery. Sellers choose the delivery methods that work best for them and their products.

Who can buy on Willit?

Willit is open to all buyers. Individuals buy directly from producers at consumer prices – all prices include VAT. Create an account, choose your products, and pay securely online. Businesses and sole traders can buy on B2B terms in the For Businesses section: prices are shown without VAT (0%), you can place large orders directly from producers, and you receive a business invoice for your orders – just confirm your business ID (Y-tunnus). International buyers are welcome too: you can pay with Klarna, for example, and order delivery abroad.

How do I receive my order?

Delivery methods vary by seller and product. When you place an order, you choose from the options the seller offers. Local pickup can be arranged at the seller's location, a market, or a Willit pickup point – smart pickup cabinets where you can collect your order 24/7 (see willit24.com). Some sellers also offer postal delivery or home delivery through our logistics partners. Delivery costs and estimated times are shown at checkout before payment.

What payment methods are accepted?

Payments are processed securely through Visma Pay. You can pay with all major Finnish bank transfers (Nordea, OP, Danske Bank, S-Pankki, and others), Visa, Mastercard, MobilePay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Siirto, and OP Lasku. Klarna is available for international orders. All prices include VAT.

How much does selling cost?

Registration is always free. There are no monthly fees and no setup costs — you only pay a 10% commission when a sale is actually completed. The commission covers buyer acquisition (social media, paid ads, newsletters and direct B2C and B2B outreach), secure online payments via Visma Pay, payment protection, logistics integrations (Posti and our own curated delivery services), pre-order tools for local, domestic and international buyers, and your seller dashboard. You don't have to deliver yourself unless you want to, and free storage at Willit pickup points is coming soon. See our pricing page for details.

Who can sell? Do I need permits?

Anyone can create a seller account. Small-scale foragers (berries, mushrooms, herbs) can start selling immediately under everyman's rights – no permits needed. We strongly recommend completing the kerääjäkortti (forager's card) for safe and responsible foraging – also read the general foraging guidelines. If a product is not covered by everyman's rights, secure permission from the landowner before harvesting. Fish sales require a primary production notification to the municipality. Game has specific rules depending on the species and processing. Businesses and larger food operations need verification – we check permits and registrations, usually within 1–2 days.

How does payment work for sellers?

Online payments are processed securely through Visma Pay. Buyers pay online and your funds land in your bank account within 3–5 business days after the order is confirmed. You can track every order, payout and report from your seller dashboard.

Can I cancel or return a product?

Cancellation more than 2 hours before pickup – full refund. Seller no-show or product significantly differs from description – full refund. Buyer no-show or cancellation under 2 hours before pickup – no refund, as the seller has already reserved the product. Most fresh food products (fish, meat, berries) fall under the perishable goods exception and cannot be returned. Refunds are always returned to the original payment method within 3–5 business days.

What are collective pre-orders?

Group buying for bulk or seasonal products. A seller sets a minimum quantity (e.g., 30kg berries). Buyers commit before the deadline. If the target is met, the seller accepts and individual orders are created. If not, the campaign is cancelled – no charges.

How do messages work?

A private chat opens between buyer and seller to arrange pickup details, share product photos, or resolve any issues. Sellers can also set pre-defined pickup times and locations so buyers can choose without needing to message.

How do you ensure food safety?

Sellers enter all product information including origin, harvest date, and allergens. We verify seller permits and registrations before approval. Every listing includes seller contact information for full traceability. The platform's built-in cold chain and quality monitoring helps ensure product integrity. Anyone can flag a listing through our 24/7 reporting channel.

What happens to my data if I delete my account?

We delete your profile, contact information, and payment details. Transaction history is kept for 7 years as required by Finnish law, but we anonymize it. You can request deletion anytime from your account settings. We do not use external tracking or analytics cookies. Full details in our privacy policy.

Taxes — DAC7 and VAT. What does a seller need to know?

Willit is covered by the EU DAC7 directive and reports each seller's sales data to the Finnish Tax Administration annually when sales exceed €2,000 or 30 transactions in a calendar year. You always receive a year-end summary in your seller dashboard for your own tax return. Income is always taxable – berries and mushrooms gathered under everyman's rights are exempt from income tax when sold fresh, but processed products and other sales fall under normal income taxation. VAT liability in Finland begins at €20,000 annual turnover – business sellers set their own VAT rate, individuals sell without VAT. Always verify your own situation with the Finnish Tax Administration.

What delivery options can I offer as a seller?

The default delivery method is always local pickup – simplest and cheapest. You can activate parcel shipping during onboarding or later in your profile settings. Willit integrates with Posti: you generate shipping labels directly from the seller dashboard at Willit's contract rates (Postipaketti to pickup point or home delivery). We also support Matkahuolto and PostNord through your own contract number. The buyer pays shipping; when their order exceeds €80, Willit covers the shipping cost. If a parcel is lost or damaged in transit, the carrier bears responsibility and Willit handles the claim for you.

What does verification require in practice and how long does it take?

Individuals selling everyman's rights products (berries, mushrooms, herbs) are auto-approved – you can start selling immediately. For business sellers we verify the business ID (Y-tunnus), IBAN, and industry-specific permits (e.g. food establishment notification or primary production notification). Submit documents during onboarding – verification typically takes 1–2 business days. If something is missing, we'll contact you by email with exactly what is needed. Rejections are extremely rare because we always help you fix any gaps.

How do I create a listing that actually sells?

A good listing has three parts. Photos: 2–4 sharp, naturally-lit photos – one overview shot and the rest of details (packaging, size, usage). Don't use stock images. Title: concrete and honest, not marketing speak ("Fresh blueberries from Pudasjärvi, 1 kg" – not "Premium berries"). Description: tell who you are, where the product comes from, when it was harvested or caught, and how the buyer should store it. Price boldly – buyers on Willit value provenance and pay for it. Seasonal products are best listed 1–2 weeks before peak season, because many buyers reserve in advance.

What if the product spoils in transit or the buyer complains about quality?

Pack fresh products carefully (cold pack, insulation, correct parcel size) and hand them to the carrier in the morning – the parcel arrives within the same day. If a parcel is delayed or lost in transit, responsibility lies with the carrier and Willit handles the claim for you. If a buyer complains about quality, work through it together in the message chat – most cases resolve with photos and dialogue. In disputes, Willit's customer service mediates and decides on compensation with both seller and buyer interests in mind. Clear product photos, honest descriptions, and quick responses to messages reduce disputes to nearly zero.

What does preordering mean?

With a preorder you reserve the season's harvest in advance, before it's available for pickup. The producer harvests or prepares it in season. You get the freshest harvest and the producer knows demand ahead of time.

Why is the price indicative for some products?

When a product isn't yet in season or the producer is far away, the final price and delivery cost can't always be calculated in advance. We then show an indicative price ('from') or note that the price is confirmed at order.
