Common Questions
Here's how Willit works – straight answers about buying and selling local food.
What is Willit?
Willit connects you with local fishers, hunters, foragers, and small farms. Buy fresh, locally sourced food and pick it up directly from the producer. We handle payments and messaging – you coordinate pickup details via chat.
What does it cost to sell?
We charge 5% commission per sale (minimum €0.50). The fee is deducted when funds are released after pickup confirmation. Volume discounts coming soon.
Who can sell? Do I need permits?
Anyone can create a seller account. Small-scale foragers (berries, mushrooms, some game) can start right away. Fish sellers, larger game operations, and businesses need verification – we check your permits and registrations, usually takes 1-2 days.
How does payment work?
Buyers pay upfront, we hold the money securely (escrow). After pickup is confirmed, we release payment to your account next business day minus our commission. If buyer doesn't confirm within 24 hours of scheduled pickup, we auto-release the funds to protect you.
What if someone cancels?
Cancel more than 2 hours before pickup? Full refund. Seller no-show or wrong product? Full refund. Buyer no-show or late cancel (under 2 hours)? Seller keeps the payment – your time and reserved product matter.
What are collective presales?
Group buying for bulk or seasonal products. Seller sets a minimum target (e.g., 300kg salmon). Buyers commit before deadline. If target is met, seller accepts and individual orders are created. If not, campaign is cancelled – no charges.
What happens to my data if I delete my account?
We delete your profile, contact details, and financial info. Transaction records stay for 7 years (Finnish law), but we anonymize them – your email becomes deleted_user_12345@willit.fi. You can request deletion anytime from settings.
How does messaging work?
After payment, a private chat opens between buyer and seller. Use it to coordinate pickup, share product photos, or resolve issues. Chat opens only after payment to prevent spam.
How do you ensure food safety?
Sellers enter all product info (origin, harvest date, allergens). We store it exactly as provided and remind sellers about Finnish Food Authority requirements. All listings include seller contact for traceability. Our quick-report channel lets anyone flag risky listings 24/7.
