Harvesting and availability
Blue cap emerges from August to October, best after rainfall. Cut the mushroom at ground level with a clean knife and clean it in the forest. Collect only healthy, intact specimens and leave small ones to grow. Practice sustainable foraging and don't take all mushrooms from the same area.
Storage and handling
Fresh blue cap keeps in the refrigerator in a paper bag for 3-5 days. For longer storage, slice thinly and dry or lightly sauté first and freeze. Dried blue cap stays fresh in an airtight container for up to a year.
